This weekend I'll be recording a segment with Joe Cardosi which will air during his Memorial Day broadcast on Monday around 1pm on WIST 690AM (and 104.9FM if you're in New Orleans). We'll be talking about music, crazy things we've seen and other stuff that will also probably have nothing at all to do with Memorial Day. Tune in when the time comes to hear that if that's what you like. If you're not in the area, go ahead and stream it from their website.

"Yellow Light District" (2003) remaster free stream release part 3 of 3

This is the last post of the year and it contains the last three tracks from 2003's Yellow Light District album. Most people don't know (and really, how could they) that I originally intended this album to be nothing more than a demo CD, only releasing it for sale in 2004. I discontinued it in 2006, and now, four years later, you can hear the whole thing from this site's Wax section in far better audio quality than the initial release afforded.

So that's one more old album posted and done. Happy New Year and enjoy your hangover tomorrow!

The extremely sharp-eyed among you may have noticed the addition of a small UStream link on the front page of this site a few days ago (don't feel bad if you didn't--that means you're sane). I plan on utilizing UStream to stream live video+audio from many future performances, music video shoots, non-solo studio work and really, whatever else I feel like--provided it works well.

This Saturday is its test run to see just how well it works as we'll be streaming the entire Sick Like Sinatra set from The Green Room in Covington--so you can watch the show as it happens even if you can't make it out to the club! The action's going to be at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/jaklocke at around 10pm or 11pm this Saturday (October 23rd).

Two new Dirty Diamond songs released

NOTE: Since I maintain a SFW (safe for work) website with all explicit materials generally marked off in very noticeable red, this particular update is going to prove to be fairly challenging to author, given that there's a nice juicy nasty word in one of the song titles. That said, let's give it a go anyway!

One of the bigger projects that have been taking up my time lately is working with Philadelphia-based act Dirty Diamond as their arranger/instrumentalist/mixer, which is just a fancy label that means I perform and record all the instruments on their recordings which they then sing over and I mix their vocals and we call it a day. The act's premise is beautifully simple--they take well-known songs and change the lyrics to something horribly dirty and inappropriate--so basically like Weird Al except with a very different demographic.

Yesterday they released two extremely filthy songs which also happen to be the first two songs that I worked on with them: "**** On Fire" and "She's Got AIDS". You can listen to both of them (as well as a wealth of earlier material from them which I wasn't involved with)
[EXPLICIT] by going here[EXPLICIT] and you can follow them on Facebook [EXPLICIT] here[EXPLICIT]--I'll be working with them on many many songs in the future. There, that's FOUR "explicit" tags, so if you're offended by / get in trouble for anything you click on in this news entry, it's your own fault now.

"Beautiful Day To Be Dead" music video in progress

Chaos Narcotic has no music videos yet which is a pretty dirty shame. While I suppose "Good Luck" technically has a video, that doesn't really count since it was shot four years ago for its initial release on Battery Acid. Over the next week or so, I'll be working with some friends and shooting a video for "Beautiful Day To Be Dead". It's probably a bad idea to commit to a deadline for its release at this point so I'll just say "fairly soon". Follow twitter.com/jaklocke if you're interested in the details of progress on it since that's where I'll be posting them.

The return of "banjo" + "banjo"'s 2007 EP up for free streaming

I think it's been long enough now. My horrible and ridiculous side project "banjo" will be working on a brand new album in the next couple of months. In the meantime I've released the 2007 banjo EP for full streaming from the Wax section. For those familiar with this whole "banjo" thing, I don't have to mention that just about every song on the EP is very, very explicit. And for those of you not familiar with it--just about every song on here is very, very explicit, though still absolutely tame compared to what we've got in store for you on the next one. Go and enjoy if you be strong with filth.

Site exclusive MP3s

There are a number of songs that I recorded that were either intended for albums and didn't make the cut; or were intentionally recorded as standalone tracks / b-sides (look that last one up if that's too archaic a term for you). Like the cover songs, these songs are now featured in the "Originals" selection under the "Site exclusives" heading in the Wax section of this site. There are only four up at the moment--many more will be added as time allows.

Jak Locke / Kelcy Mae split/blend (2006)

Back in early 2006, fellow local artist Kelcy Mae and I covered one of each other's songs and then worked together on new recordings of two of our songs. Today I realized that those four songs never made it across the website update, so I've put them back up for you to listen to.

"Nothing But Time" (Chaos Narcotic outtake)

This song hasn't really had a properly recorded release (unless you're counting 1999's Rot demo or the 2003 demo, which I'd hardly call "properly recorded"). I'd started recording it for Chaos Narcotic last year, writing a new bridge and everything. I ended up liking the new bridge so much that I turned it into its own song ("Dreamless") and proceeded to forget about "Nothing But Time" completely. Last night I came across it, added a LOT of new parts and now here it is for you to listen to (it's also this week's featured song).

KPB Productions' "The Hitters" on YouTube

As I mentioned two news entries ago, my friends in KPB Productions entered their short film "The Hitters" into the 48 Hour Film Festival and it featured two songs from 2008's Flower Of Flesh And Bone, "Dark Little Cloud" and "Canto XXVIII". You can now see it on YouTube by either clicking the picture above or right here.

Online tip bucket added

While it's very likely crass and obnoxious to even mention this, it *is* an addition to the front page and so it deserves a mention. Via PayPal, I've set up an online tip jar if you like all the stuff I put up here and prefer to show your appreciation with money. Who knows, there might be something extra for anyone who actually uses it. You just never know.

Metal act returns as Dead Locke

After sixteen months the metal act is back in a slightly different form with many of the same players under the name Dead Locke. While there won't be nearly as many shows with it as the other live projects I'm doing, few is more than none. Look for something from this over the next three months and add Dead Locke's Facebook page in the meantime.
